Upsetting
Before threading, tubing undergoes a hot forge process called pipe upsettng, which increases the wall thickness at each end. This added thickness ensures consistent strength and makes threading possible.
In this process, the tube ends are heated in a furnace and then placed in an upsetter. Held by two dyes, a punch forms the upset by forcing into the heated end. The pipe is air-cooled, trimmed to remove flashings, and visually inspected for any flaws. A hot drift inspection ensures the internal diameter hasn't changed significantly.
Sim-Tex offers both standard API and premium upset tubing, and we can closely monitor all processes to ensure API standards are met. Any pipe that doesn't pass inspection is reworked - because quality always comes first.
